Indians play Lions in Big Rivalry Varsity Football Game Tonight

By Ken Brady

The Stephens County Indians will travel to Carnesville tonight (September 25) to play the Franklin County Lions in high school varsity football.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Ed Bryant Stadium. Last Friday, the Indians defeated Dawson County at home, 42-14, to improve their record to 2-2. Franklin County enters tonight’s game with a record of 3-1 after suffering a loss at home to Crescent, S.C., last Friday, 38-3.  This will be the first Region 8-AAA game for both teams. Last year, Stephens County won a close game at home against the Lions, 24-20.

Last night on the Crunch Time radio program, Indians Outside Linebackers Coach Mike Stowe said it will be a tough game with the Lions tonight.

“There’s no doubt about it, it’s going to be a challenge. Both teams are hungry for a win to get the region started. Time to set the tone, if you will, for the rest of the season, so it’s going to be a battle. Of course, anytime Franklin and Stephens are playing anything, it’s going to be a close, heated game, so I’m looking forward to it.”

93.1 FM and AM-630 WNEG begins coverage tonight with the Indian Road Show at 6:30, followed by Coach’s Corner at 7, and pre-game live from the stadium at 7:15.

In middle school football, the Stephens County Middle School Rebels ended their regular season schedule Thursday night, September 24, with a 28-7 road win over Habersham. The Rebels finish the regular season with a record of 5-1, and will advance on to the playoffs. They play Madison County on Thursday, October 1, at The Reservation.
