Indians-Lions Split Two Tight Games in Dacula

The Stephens County Indians baseball team and Hebron Christian Academy Lions played two similar games on Thursday in Dacula with two different outcomes.

In game one, the Indians trailed 3-1 in the 6th inning but scored two runs in the 6th and added two more in the 7th inning to take a 5-3 victory.

With the Indians trailing 3-1 in the 6th, Nick Randall led off the inning with a walk and went to 3rd base on a Ben Stowe single. After a William Roush walk, Garrett Pless hit a sacrifice fly scoring Randall, and Stowe scored on Konnor Loudermilk’s ground ball leading to an error and tying the game.

The Indians took the lead for good in the 7th inning when Bailey Stowe walked, Dylan White reached on an error, and Colby Fowler singled to load the bases. Randall and Stowe then followed with RBI’s on a sacrifice fly and fielder’s choice ground ball.

Loudermilk pitched 2 and 2/3 innings of shutout ball and allowed just 3 hits in relief to get the win. Pless started the game and went 4 and a 1/3 innings giving up 3 unearned runs while striking out 5. Leyten Jones took the loss for the Lions in relief.

Game two was not as kind to the Indians falling to the Lions 8-7.

Stephens County trailed early 1-0 but scored 3 runs, aided by 2 Lions errors and without a hit, to grab a 3-1 lead in the top of the 3rd.

Hebron battled back with 2 runs in the bottom frame to tie the score at 3.

In the 4th, Ben Stowe doubled and scored on a Roush single. Roush later scored on a passed ball and the Indians led 5-3 after 4 innings. The Indians would add to the lead in the 5th when Randall walked and scored on a Ben Stowe single, and in the 6th when Pless led off with a single and scored on a Bailey Stowe sacrifice fly.

Things went south for the Indians soon after when in the bottom of the 6th, Ayden Hudson’s towering 2-run homer closed the gap to 7-5 and the Lions scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th without getting an out capped off by Morgan Wiles RBI single scoring Dimitri Watts to take the win.

Stephens County used 4 pitchers in the game with Hayden Scott taking the tough loss. Dallas Rice got the win in relief pitching the last 3 innings for the Lions.

Stephens County is now 3-3 in Region-8 play and 11-6 overall. Hebron Christian is 2-4 in the region and 5-11-1 overall.

The Indians next game will be on Tuesday when they travel to Watkinsville to face Oconee County. Game time is scheduled for 5:55 P.M. with airtime scheduled for 5:45 P.M. on WNEG.
