Indians Host State Playoff Tonight

The Stephens County Indians boys basketball team will play host in the 1st round of the AAAA State Playoffs tonight at Currahee Arena.

The Indians are the #2 seed from Region-8 and will host the #3 seed from Region-5 Troup County.

The Tigers are 17-9 this season and led by senior JaQuavo McFarland who was named to the All-Region team.

Stephens County enters tonight’s game with a record of 16-10 and is led by All-Region 1st team member-senior Ty Nails, and junior point guard Nigel Green, named all-region 2nd team.

Tickets for tonight’s Indians playoff game is $7, and only GHSA passes will be allowed.

Airtime for tonight’s Stephens County-Troup County game is set for 6:45 P.M. with tipoff at 7 P.M. on 93.1 FM & AM-630 WNEG, as well as at wnegradio.com.

Other boys teams from Region-8 in action this weekend include Region champion St. Pius hosting Cedartown, Region-8’s #3 seed Madison County at Cartersville, and Region 8’s #4 seed North Oconee at Sandy Creek.

Area teams in the state playoffs include in AAA, the Hart County boys at Pace Academy, and the Franklin County boys, in as an at large team, traveling to Macon to face Central.
In class AA, the Rabun County boys will be at Breman, and Banks County will host Callaway.

In the girls tournament, Rabun County won their Region and will host Heard County in the opening round. Banks County will travel to Breman, Hart County will host Redan, and Commerce will travel to Emanuel County in the A-public tournament.

The Stephens County Varsity baseball team returns to the diamond tomorrow (Saturday) as they will participate in a three team doubleheader at the home field of Habersham Central. Rabun County will face Habersham Central at 11 A.M., Stephens County will face Rabun County at 2 P.M., and Habersham Central hosts the Indians at 5 P.M. Airtime Saturday on WNEG will be 1:45 P.M.
