Indians Get Region 3rd

The Stephens County Indians defeated Madison County in the Region 8-AAAA Basketball Tournament Friday night in Jefferson to secure the number 3 seed.  The final score was 84 to 56.  They will play the number 2 team from Region 7-AAAA in the first round of the state tournament next week.

The Indians got off to a fast start, holding Madison County to just 5 points while scoring 22 at the end of the 1st period.  Stephens County extended their lead to 24 by halftime.  Ty Nails led all scorers with 29 points,  followed by Chaz Bridges with 19, including 5 three-pointers.  Jackson Bailey led Madison County with 19 points.

Stephens County improves to 20 & 8 overall while Madison County drops to 11 & 16.

Region 8 will match up with Region 7 in the first round of the AAAA State playoffs this weekend. Blessed Trinity defeated Marist 49-42 in the Region 7 final on Saturday night. Stephens County will travel to Marist in the opening round, and Madison County will be at Blessed Trinity.

In other scores from the Region 8-AAAA tournament, St. Pius wins the boys Championship and number one seed defeating Jefferson 82-50, Jefferson wins the girls title and number one seed defeating Madison County, and the North Oconee girls defeated the St. Pius girls 40 to 35 to get the Region’s third seed.
