Indians Get Payback in Homer

Takias Nails scored 26 points, including 9 out of 10 free throws to hold off a Banks County rally, and the Stephens County Indians picked up a huge win on the road defeating Banks County 78-68 Friday night in Homer.

The Indians held an 8 point lead at the half and increased the lead to 13 in the third quarter. The Leopards fought back to pull as close as 2 points with the ball, but could never tie or take the lead.

Stephens County had three other players in double figures in the balanced attack: Nigel Green scored 19 points, Ty Nails 14, and Kenny Colwell 11.

Banks County’s Carl Cleveland, who had 45 points when the two teams met in November, scored 33 points with 22 coming in the 2nd half.

Stephens County improves to 5-2 with the win. Banks County falls to 3-4.

In the girls contest, Stephens County led by 8 after one quarter, and by 1 at the half, but Banks County outscored the Lady Indians 39-12 in the 2nd half and rolled to a 57-31 win.

Kiki Howard led the Lady Indians with 9 points. The Lady Leopards were led by Jaycie Brown’s 13 points.

Banks County remained undefeated improving to 7-0. The Lady Indians fall to 1-5.

Stephens County’s games scheduled for Saturday at Habersham Central have been postponed. The likely re-scheduled date will be Saturday, December 15th.

Stephens County will return home on Tuesday when they host Rabun County at Currahee Arena. Airtime on WNEG is scheduled for 5:45 P.M. with tipoff for the girls game scheduled for 6 P.M.
