Indians fall to Wolverines in Varsity Baseball

In Stephens County High School Varsity Baseball, Prince Avenue scored four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back as the Wolverines blanked the Stephens County Indians 10-0 Monday night at the Reservation.

 The game was the first of a three-game series and clinched the region 8-AA title for the Wolverines.

Stephens County is tied with Franklin County for second place in the region and holds the tiebreaker. Franklin County was blanked by Hebron Christian on Monday while East Jackson defeated Hart County.

Findley Ward gave up nine runs in four and 1/3 innings and Noah Holbrooks finished out the game. Junior right-hander Drew Payne of Prince Avenue gave up just three singles and struck out seven. Griff Bryant and Cole Broxton each had home runs while Broxton drove in four runs.

The win for the Wolverines was their 24th of the season and 12-1 in region play. The Indians are now 18-7 on the season and 8-5 in region play.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday at Prince Avenue. Game time is set for 5:55 P.M. with airtime at 5:45 P.M. on WNEG.
