Indians Fall to Jefferson in Region Semi-Final

Daniel Parker scored a three point play on a drive and a foul with just under twenty seconds to go in the game, and the Jefferson Dragons defeated the Stephens County Indians in the Region 8 Semi-Final 64-62 Thursday night in Jefferson.

It was a game that went back and forth with Jefferson leading by as much as 10, and Stephens County leading by 6 with less than three minutes to go.

Saddled by foul trouble, the Indians received a big lift from their bench with freshman Reuben Walker leading the way scoring 16 third quarter points including 4-three pointers.

Chaz Bridges and Ty Nails scored 12 points apiece, and Montavis Thornton added 10 for the Indians.

Jefferson was led by Jasper Gibson with 19 points, and Donsha Gaither had 16.

Jefferson now advances to the Region Championship tonight against St. Pius., a 79-46 winner over Madison County. Stephens County falls to 19-8 on the season, and will play for the Region’s third seed this evening against Madison County.

In the girls bracket, Jefferson defeated St. Pius 53-42, and Madison County defeated North Oconee .

Region 8 will match up with Region 7 in the first round of the AAAA State Playoffs and in a game of interest the Marist boys defeated White County 51-42.

Today’s Region-8 tournament schedule will have the St. Pius girls vs. North Oconee at 4 P.M. for the Region’s three seed, Stephens County and Madison County boys at 5:30 P.M., the Girls final with Madison County vs. Jefferson at 7 P.M., and the boy’s final St. Pius vs. Jefferson at 8:30 P.M.

WNEG will broadcast the Stephens County-Madison County game with airtime scheduled for 5:20 P.M. and tipoff at 5:30 P.M..
