Indians Fall Short at Rabun County

The Rabun County Wildcats basketball team jumped out to an early lead, extended it to 12 at the half, and lost the lead in the 2nd half only to battle back to a 55-53 win over Stephens County Tuesday night in Tiger.

The win was the 1st of the season for the Wildcats, now 1-4. Stephens County falls to 3-6.

The Indians fought their way back from a 13 point deficit in the 2nd half, and led by as many as 5 before losing the lead late.

Kenny Colwell was the lone double figure scorer for the Indians with 20 points, including five 3-point baskets. Rabun County was led by Connor McKay with a game high 22 points.

In the girls game, undefeated Rabun County outscored the Lady Indians 32-11 in the 2nd quarter to take a 73-63 victory over the Lady Indians.

Stephens County trailed by 22 points at the end of the 3rd quarter, but Kiara (Ki Ki) Howard led a furious 4th quarter comeback with 15 points in the quarter, including three 3-pointers, to cut the lead to as low as 6, but the Lady Cats made some key free throws down the stretch to hold on.

Howard and Savanna Broska scored 17 points each to lead the Lady Indians. Ranajah Verdell added 11 points and Na Na Eades 10 for the Lady Indians now 6-3 on the season.

Rabun County, now 6-0 on the season, was led by Gracie Deetz with 16 points.

Stephens County will face their first Region-8 opponent on Friday when they host Madison County at the Currahee Arena. Airtime is set for 6:45 P.M. on WNEG.
