Indians Fall Short at North Oconee

The North Oconee Titans went 6 for 6 from the free throw line in the final 25 seconds and escaped with a 65-62 win over the Stephens County Indians Tuesday night in Bogart.

With the scored tied at 59, the Titans Byrd Carter was fouled and made two free throws to give North Oconee a 61-59 lead. On the Indians next possession, Thomas Clausen got a steal and was fouled. After Clausen’s two free throws, Stephens County’s Corey Richie sank a three-pointer to cut the lead to one, but North Oconee’s Brodie Scott made two more free throws with 6 seconds remaining, and the Indians final shot fell short.

Three Indians scored in double figures led by DJ Hampton’s 18 points. Moochie Morrison and Richie had 10 points each.

Jake Chandler had 25 points to lead the undefeated Titans, now 6-0. Stephens County falls to 0-8 with the loss.

Earlier in the evening, the Lady Titans of North Oconee led by 15 at the half and rolled to a 51-27 win over the Lady Indians.

My’Angel Carter had 11 points to lead the Lady Indians scoring. Callie Jackson led North Oconee with 15.

North Oconee improves to 6-1 on the season. The Lady Indians are now 0-8.

After three straight road games, the Indians and Lady Indians return home to Currahee Arena on Friday when they host Rabun County. Airtime on WNEG is set for 6:45 P.M. with the girls’ tipoff scheduled for 7 P.M.

The Indians will also host Habersham Central on Saturday with airtime scheduled for 5:45 P.M. on WNEG.
