Indians Earn Pre-Season Win
The Stephens County Indians defeated the Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs of Region-8 AAAAA 30-20 Friday night at the Reservation.
Winder-Barrow took an early 7-0 lead on a Harrison Raley to London Munez touchdown pass.
Stephens County tied the score in the 1st quarter when Branson Stowe connected with Davon Swinton on a touchdown pass.
Winder-Barrow regained the lead in the 2nd quarter on a Raley 3-yard touchdown run to take a 13-7 lead into halftime.
Stephens County cut the lead to 3 in the 3rd quarter on a Luke Waters 20-yard field goal, but on the next play the Bulldoggs Kenyon Glaspar went 75-yards to extend the lead to 20-10.
The Indians followed with an impressive drive culminating with a Josiah Wiley 2-yd touchdown run to trim the lead to 20-16 going to the 4th quarter.
Both teams went with youth in the 4th quarter. A Bulldoggs fumble inside their own 10-yard line led to the Indians go ahead score on a Dallas Hague 5-yard touchdown run, and the Indians scored again on a Peanut Arthur 3-yard touchdown run for the final tally.
Stephens County Head Coach Thomas Flowers was proud of how his team responded.
The Indians will open the regular season on Friday night when they travel to Mt. Airy to face Habersham Central in the battle of Currahee Mountain.
