Indians Drop Region Opener to Lions
The Franklin County Lions took the region-8 opener in both the girls and boys games
Tuesday evening at the Currahee Arena.
Despite not starting the game and entering in the second quarter, Ta’Kiaha Winkfield scored 18 points and teamed up with Nykhia Johnson’s 20 points to defeat the Lady Indians 48-34.
Stephens County played it tough in the first half, going into the locker room tied at 19 at the half.
Fayeth Ivester hit five three-point shots to lead Stephens County with 15 points and Ivey Jackson contributed 11 points.
The Lady Indians are now 0-1 in region play and 2-13 on the season. Franklin County’s girls are 7-8 on the season with the one region 8-AA win.
In the boys’ game, Fraequane Wilkins scored 22 points to lead the Franklin boys 70-52 over the Stephens County boys.
Jordan Ardister added 10 points for the Lions.
C.J. Harbin led the Indians with 11 points and Brock Tankersley had 9 points.
The loss dropped the Indians to 1-13 on the season with the Tuesday loss being the first region loss.
Franklin County goes to 6-10 and starts their region slate at 1-0.
The Indians will be at home this weekend, weather permitting, against East Jackson Friday night and Elbert County Saturday night.
Game time is set for 7 P.M. Friday night and 6 P.M. on Saturday.
