Indians Drop Final Non-Region Game

story by Ted Taylor

Defensive miscues in the final two innings Thursday night cost the Stephens County Indians as they dropped a 9-4 decision to the Chestatee War Eagles in a non-region match-up.

Chestatee scored a run in the top of the first inning, but the Indians countered with three runs following four walks to the first four batters. Lefty Jake Hitchcock was removed after failing to get anybody out and was replaced by Wesley Gossett.

Indians starter Nick Randall pitched the first four innings Thursday night, giving up three runs, striking out four and walking just two.

The War Eagles tied the game in the second on a wild pitch and a passed ball.

Stephens County took the lead 4-3 in the fourth inning and held that lead until the sixth inning. A two-base throwing error led to two Chestatee runs in the sixth inning and two more errors in the 7th inning led to four War Eagle runs and the final 9-4 decision.

Ben Stowe, William Roush and Rhett Arrowood had RBIs for the Indians.

Prior to the start of the game, nine seniors on the Stephen County Indians baseball team were recognized. Those seniors were Garrett Pless, Nick Randall, Ben Stowe, Bailey Stowe, Dylan White, Rhett Arrowood, Tyson Everett, Braden Holbrooks and Grant Babbitt.

Next action for the Indians will be Tuesday when they return to region play and host the Hart County Bulldogs. Game time will be 5:55 P.M. and airtime on WNEG will be 5:45 P.M.
