Indians Drop 3rd Straight at Jefferson

The Stephens County Indians lost their 3rd straight game on Thursday falling at Jefferson 6-1.

The Indians were held to just 4 hits, and limited to 3 hits in 6 innings by Jefferson starting pitcher Derek Vaughn.

Jefferson jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning when Lane Watkins doubled home Zac Corbin, and Sammy Elegreet singled home Watkins.

Stephens County cut the lead in half on a 2nd inning leadoff home run by Isaiah Martin, but that was as close as the Indians would get.

Jefferson’s Cole Watkins doubled home two runs in the 4th inning, and the Dragons would add two insurance runs in the 6th.

Davis Swenson got the loss for the Indians to fall to 2-2. Swenson pitched 5 innings, allowing 4 runs an 7 hits, striking out 6 and walking 4. Josh Henshaw pitched the final inning allowing one earned run on 2 hits and striking out 1.

Jefferson remains undefeated now 10-0. Stephens County falls to 7-5-1 and will host Banks County on Saturday in a final tune-up before Region-8 play starts next week.
