Indians Down Bulldogs in 10
The Stephens County Indians scored two runs with two outs in the top of the 10th inning and held on for a 4-2 victory over Hart County on Wednesday night in Hartwell.
The score had been tied 2-2 since the 4th inning but with two outs in the 10th Branson Stowe singled, advanced to 2nd base and 3rd base on passed balls, and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. The Indians added another run on four straight walks culminating with Will Faulk’s RBI base on balls.
The Indians trailed early in the game 2-0 but tied the score in the 4th inning on Stowe’s RBI double scoring Christian Hewitt, and Stowe scored on a wild pitch.
Findley Ward and Noah Strickland were outstanding on the mound and did not allow a Bulldog hit the final six innings of the game.
Ward started and went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out four. Strickland pitched the final 3 and 1/3 innings of no-hit ball with five strikeouts to earn the win.
Hart County’s Max Martin pitched a strong nine innings allowing only 2 runs on 6 hits. Tucker Parson got the loss in relief.
Stephens County stopped a four game losing streak and improved to 11-9 overall and 4-4 in region-8 AA play. Hart County falls to 4-16 overall and 2-6 in the region.
The two teams, who also played extra innings on Monday with Hart County taking a 7-6 victory, will meet again on Friday at Stephens County. Game time is set for 5:55 P.M. with airtime at 5:45 P.M. on WNEG.
