Indians Dominate Unbeaten Bulldogs in 2nd Half for Huge Region Win

By Phil Hobbs

The Stephens County Indians trailed #3-ranked Hart County 22-0 in the 2nd quarter but outscored the Bulldogs 44-6 the rest of the way for an amazing 44-28 victory Friday night at the Reservation.

Hart County scored on its first three possessions on short touchdown runs by Tucker Parson and Zeebo Harper.

The Indians got on the board on a Branson Stowe to Kaden Harbin touchdown pass, but the Bulldogs answered right back on a Parsons to Xavier Allen 60-yard touchdown pass.

The Indians got a big score before the half when Stowe hit McCade Huff for a 4-yard touchdown pass, and an Ashton Winters 2-pt conversion cut the lead to 28-14 at the half.

It was all Indians in the 2nd half, as they outscored the Bulldogs 30-0. Stowe connected on two touchdown passes to Duke Collins from 76 and 38 yards. Stowe and Collins also connected on a 2-pt version.

The Indians added two pick-6 interceptions for touchdowns in the 4th quarter; the first by Collins, and the second by Isaiah Arthur on the final play of the game.

Stephens County Head Coach Thomas Flowers said the team was energized coming out in the 2nd half.

“I could not be more proud of this community. Number one, I want to give my lord and savior, Jesus Christ, all of the credit. We have something special on this team, and that’s the love of Jesus Christ, and there’s nothing more unifying in the universe than his love, and we have that love on this team. But the players played so hard, the coaches coached so hard. They didn’t give up at halftime. We were excited when we went to the fieldhouse, and we talked, and we coached them up. The players were excited to come out after halftime and play. They executed so well, and I’m so proud of them.”

It was the 4th straight win for Stephens County, now 2-0 in Region-8 AAA and 4-2 overall. Hart County falls to 2-1 in the region and 6-1 overall.

Stephens County will be on the road next Friday night when they travel to Lumpkin County.
