Indians Defeat Dawson, 38-10

Three touchdown runs from Javin Gordon and two touchdown passes from Ben Stowe to Jasec Smith paced Stephens County to a non-region win over Dawson County Friday night.

The Indians took the lead early and never trailed en route to the 38-10 win over the Tigers in Dawsonville.

Stephens County Head Coach Wesley Tankersley said it is a good win, but that room for improvement remains.

“It was not perfect,” Tankersley said. “We played pretty good but not as good as we could have. We just have to keep working and getting better because we have a good opponent next week and then region play with a lot of good teams.”

Following an Isaac DeFoor interception, Javin Gordon’s eight-yard touchdown run gave the Indians a 7-0 lead halfway through the first quarter.

Stephens County scored twice in the second quarter – getting two Ben Stowe to Jasec Smith touchdown passes of 57 and 12 yards respectively – to take a 21-0 lead into the half. Defensively, Cam Lacy contributed an interception in the quarter.

A 37-yard field goal from Dom LeBlanc gave Dawson County its first points halfway through the third quarter. However, an eight-yard touchdown run from Javin Gordon and a 22-yard Colton Bartmas field goal extended the Indians’ lead to 31-3 after three quarters of play.

Gordon’s third touchdown run of the night, from one yard out, gave the Indians a 38-3 lead in the fourth quarter. A late 65-yard touchdown pass by Dawson County ended the scoring.

With the win, Stephens County moves to 3-1 on the season. Dawson County falls to 2-2 with the loss. Stephens County will return home this coming week to host White County in the final non-region game of the season. Kick-off on Friday is set for 7:30 p.m. with coverage on WNEG and wnegradio.com starting at 5:30 p.m. with the Indian Tailgate Show.
