Indians Boys Basketball Take Region Opener

Stephens County Senior Ty Nails scored 20 of his team high 25 points in the 2nd half, and the Indians overcame an 8 point 2nd half deficit to defeat Madison County 85-77 Friday night at Currahee Arena in the boys basketball Region-8 opener for both teams.

Nails teammate Nigel Green added 23 points, including a huge 3-pointer to tie the score at the end of the third quarter. Kenny Colwell added four 3-pointers for 14 points, and Takias Nails was also in double figures with 10 for the victors.

Adam Metts led Madison County with a game high 28 points.

It was the fifth straight win for the Indians now 7-2. Madison County falls to 3-6 with the loss.

In the girls contest, undefeated Madison County led 27-7 after one quarter and rolled to a 58-26 win over the Lady Indians.

Sophomore sensation Kayla McPherson scored 22 of her game high 26 points in the 1st half to lead the Lady Red Raiders.

Kiki Howard led Stephens County with 8 points.

The Lady Indians fall to 1-7, and 0-1 in Region-8 play. Madison County, ranked #3 in the state in AAAA, improves to 10-0 overall, and 1-0 in the Region.

The Indians and Lady Indians will have a quick turnaround with games on Saturday at Habersham Central in Mt. Airy. Airtime is scheduled for 1:45 P.M. with the girls game at 2 P.M. and the boys game to follow on WNEG.
