Indians Basketball Swept at Oconee

The Stephens County Indians and Lady Indians basketball teams fell at Oconee County on Friday night in Watkinsville.

The Lady Indians were held to 9 points in the first half, and despite outscoring the Lady Warriors in the 2nd half lost by 16 points 45-29.

The Lady Indians MyAngel Carter led all scorers in the game with 14 points. Macey Matthews and Caroline Davis led Oconee County with 13 points each.

The Lady Warriors improve to 11-4 on the season and 1-1 in Region-8 AAA play. Stephens County falls to 0-2 in the Region and 1-16 overall.

In the boys’ game, Oconee County outscored Stephens County 25-8 in the 2nd quarter to lead by 20 points at halftime and rolled to an 81-48 win.

Oconee County’s Zach Oechsle led four Warriors in double figures with 21 points. The game was also stopped in the 2nd quarter to honor Oechsle for scoring his 1,000th point as a Warrior.

Stephens County was led in scoring by Tyrece Mackie with 12 points and A.J. Russell added 10.

Stephens County falls to 0-2 in Region-8 play, and 3-14 overall. Oconee County has now won nine straight games and improves to 12-3 on the season and 2-0 in the Region.

Both Stephens County teams are scheduled to return to Currahee Arena on Tuesday when they host Hart County. Airtime is scheduled for 5:45 P.M. on WNEG.
