Indians and Lady Indians Still Looking for Wins

The Stephens County Indians and Lady Indians battled hard this past weekend but could not come up with their first wins of the season.

On Friday night, The Lady Wildcats of Rabun County had three players in double figures as they rolled to a 77-37 win over the Lady Indians. Sophie Woodard led her team with 16 points, Gracie Deetz had 14 and Trea Blalock chipped in with 12.

Stephens County ‘s girls were led by A’Niya Mayweather, who scored 10 points. My’Angel Carter also scored 9 points.

The Stephens County boys could not slow down Rabun County’s Connor McKay. The Lander commit tossed in 32 points as the Wildcats survived an Indians rally and posted a 71-65 win. Corey Richie had 21 points for the Indians while Tyrese Mackie had 14.

On Saturday night, the Battle of Currahee Mountain, basketball style, featured Stephens County and Habersham Central with the Raiders coming out on top in both games.

The Lady Raiders Kyia Barrett poured in 27 points to lead Habersham Central to a 68-33 victory.

Makiya Knox and My Angel Carter each had nine points to lead Stephens County’s girls.

Once again, the Stephens County boys came within one shot of picking up their first win. The two teams swapped leads in the fourth quarter with the Indians getting the final shot. Javin Gordon took the inbounds pass, drove into the lane and fired a shot, but it wouldn’t fall as Habersham Central pulled off a 75-74 win.

Habersham Central was led by Mekhi Mawdesley, who scored 32 points. Stephens County got 28 points from Corey Richie and 13 points from Aaron Scott.

The Indians and Lady Indians will both take 0-10 records into the Inferno in Elbert County Tuesday night as they take on the Elbert County Blue Devils. Game time is 6 P.M. Tuesday with airtime on WNEG set for 5:45PM.
