Indians Advance to Region-8 Final

The Stephens County Indians boys basketball team broke open a tie game in the 4th quarter and held on for a 55-52 win over Madison County in the Region-8 AAAA semi-final Thursday night at Currahee Arena.

With the win the Indians advance to the Region final tonight against St. Pius, and secured a home first round game in next weeks AAAA State playoffs.

Kenny Colwell and Takias Nails scored 15 points each to lead the Indians. Ty Nails was also in double figures with 10.

Dylan Carey led Madison County, now 8-16 on the season, with 17 points.

Stephens County improves to 16-9 on the season and will face St. Pius for the Region final tonight at 8:30 P.M. The Golden Lions won the two meetings with the Indians in the regular season.

The schedule for Friday at Currahee Arena will be as follows: Girls- North Oconee vs. Oconee County for 3rd place at 4 P.M., Boys-Madison County vs. North Oconee for 3rd place at 5:30 P.M., Girls Region Final St. Pius vs. Madison County at 7 P.M., followed by Stephens County-St. Pius. Airtime for the boys final will be around 8:15 P.M. on WNEG.

Also, this sports note-The Stephens County Indians Baseball team will have a scrimmage game today at Habersham Central at 5:30 P.M. The Indians will open the regular season on Monday at 5 P.M. when they travel to Flowery Branch. Airtime Monday on WNEG is set for 4:45 P.M.
