Indian Football Wins Third in a Row

The Stephens County Indian football picks up a third win in a row.

Friday night, the Indians jumped out early and never looked back on the way to a 44-13 win in non-region play over Madison County at the Reservation.

Head Coach Wesley Tankersley said it was a complete team effort.

“I’m really proud of our guys on a really good effort,” said Tankersley. “There are still a lot of things we have to work on. We’re doing a lot of good things offensively and defensively. We just have to cut down on our own mistakes.”

The Indians scored two first-quarter touchdowns on short runs of 3 yards from Ben Stowe and one yard from Corey Ibrahim to take a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Neither team scored in the second quarter, but the Indians added to their lead after intermission.

In the third quarter, Corey Ibrahim had touchdown runs of 10 yards and 3 yards to make it 28-0.

After Madison County got on the board via a 28-yard touchdown pass from Cooper Brown to Ty Chappell, Cam Lacy returned the ensuing kickoff 70 yards to make it 35-7 in favor of Stephens County heading to the fourth quarter.

The Indians got one more touchdown on a 64-yard touchdown pass from Ben Stowe to Gamarion Carter. Then, after Madison County got one last score on a 74-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Martavian Cooper, the Indians got a late safety to end the scoring.

Defensively, Corey Richie had an interception and a fumble recovery and Javion Hightower also had a fumble recovery.

With the win, the Indians move to 3-1 on the season, while Madison County falls to 1-2 on the year.

Stephens County remains home next week to host Habersham Central in the “Battle of Currahee Mountain” this coming Friday night. Kick-off Friday night is 7:30 p.m. on WNEG with coverage starting at 5:30 p.m. with the Indian Tailgate Show.
