Indian Boys Get First Win-Lady JV’s Win a Thriller

The Stephens County Boys Basketball team picked up the first win of the season routing Elbert County 75-53 at Currahee Arena on Tuesday.

The Indians jumped out to a 21-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and took a 38-20 lead into halftime.

With the win, the Indian boys improve to 1-2. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams will return to the hardwood Saturday when they host Habersham Central. The Raiders swept the Indians last Saturday in Mt. Airy taking the girls’ game 33-28, and the boys’ game 61-39.

WNEG will broadcast both games with airtime set for 2:45 P.M. on Saturday.

In other sports news, the Stephens County Lady Indians J-V team played their first game of the season Wednesday night at Habersham Central and came away with a tight 39-38 victory.

A’nya Dupree hit a free throw with just 2.9 seconds remaining to seal the win. The leading scorers for the Lady Indians JV were Aleria Faulkner with 16 points; Lanesia Verdell with 10 points, and Terynn Mitchell with 7 points.
