Indian Basketball Wraps Up Regular Season

The Stephens County Indian and Lady Indian basketball teams can now turn their attention to the post season after wrapping up the regular season Friday night at North Oconee with a split.

In the boys’ game, North Oconee cut a double digit first half lead to three in the third quarter, but the Indians went on a 30-10 run to pull away for a 74-54 win.

Ty Nails led four Indians in double figures with 22 points. Kenny Colwell added 16 points, Chris Sinclair scored 13 points and Takias Nails chipped in 10 points.

Wes Wilson led the Titans with 21 points and Dylan Garrington added 18 points.

With the win, the Indian boys wrapped up the regular season 15-9 overall and 5-3 in the region, good for second place. North Oconee’s boys dropped to 5-20 overall and 1-7 in the region with the loss.

Moving to the girls’ game, Stephens County trailed by just one point at halftime, but the Lady Titans used a 17-5 third quarter run to pull away for a 49-41 win over the Lady Indians.

Kiki Howard led the Lady Indians with 13 points and NaNa Eades added 10.

Wells Finch and Ansley Hall each had 11 points to lead North Oconee.

The loss drops the Lady Indians to 5-18 overall and 1-7 in the region, while North Oconee’s girls moved to 15-10 overall and 5-3 in the region with the win.

Both teams will now move into the Region 8-AAAA tournament next week. The boys are off until Thursday when they host Madison County in a semifinal game.

As for the Lady Indians, they will travel back to Watkinsville on Tuesday to play Oconee County. The winner of that game will move into the semifinals and earn a state playoff berth.

Tuesday’s girls’ game will tip off at 6 p.m. Air time Tuesday on WNEG and wnegradio.com is set for 5:45 p.m.
