Indian Basketball Swept on Senior Night

Stephens County will head back into region basketball play this coming week after dropping a pair of games on Senior Night in Toccoa.

Friday, the Lady Indians and Indians both lost to Hart County in varsity basketball play at the Currahee Arena.

In the girls’ game, Stephens County trailed by only two at the half, but the Lady Bulldogs used an 18-6 third quarter run to break the game open and beat the Lady Indians, 62-37.

Ranajah Verdell led the Lady Indians with 11 points and NaNa Eades added nine points for Stephens County.

Torrion Starks led Hart County with 21 points, while Taniya Alexander scored 11 and A’Cira Teasley added 10.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs move to 17-5 overall and the Lady Indians drop to 5-16 with the loss.

The boys’ game looked a lot like the girls’ game, as again Stephens County only trailed by two at the half, but again, Hart County used a big third quarter to pull away for a 67-52 win.

Ty Nails led the Indians with 17 points, and Nigel Green and DJ Hampton each scored seven.

Rex McCord led three Bulldogs in double figures with 17 points. Trevin Curry added 13 and Elijah Robinson scored 11 points.

The Bulldogs move to 17-5 with the win, while the Indians drop to 14-8 with the loss.

Senior basketball players were also honored Friday night. They were Kaniyah Laboon, Ty Nails, Takias Nails, and Jossiah Montgomery.

In J.V. action on Friday, the Lady Indians lost to Hart by one and the Indian boys lost by three.

Stephens County will travel to Oconee County for a region basketball doubleheader on Tuesday. The varsity girls will tip off at 6 p.m. Tuesday with the boys’ game to follow. Air time on WNEG and wnegradio.com is set for 5:45 p.m.
