Humane Shelter needs Donations

The Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter is in need of funds.

Due to a recent $20,000 budget cut, the humane shelter is in need of donations from the community to help maintain the shelter, pay expenses and take care of animals housed there.

Board Member Peggy Chambers told WNEG that the shelter is in great need of donations.

“When the budget came up for review, we asked for the same as last year, plus we asked for $20,000 more…” Chambers said. “But they said no, and then they cut our regular budget by $20,000.”

To offset the cost of care, the shelter has planned a concert to raise funds to go directly to performing everyday operations.

The concert will feature Motown band The Natural Truth and will be held in the Historic Ritz Theatre at the Schaefer Center, located on E. Doyle Street, Oct. 21.

Tickets will cost $20, and can be purchased on the shelter’s website.

Chambers added that she hopes for a strong turnout for the event.

The shelter is also in search of homes for the pets they currently care for, the average adoption fee is $100 which includes either spayed or neutered, vaccinated and the treatment of any medical conditions.

Adoptions can be made during regular business hours.

The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Chambers added, every animal is as adoptable as possible.
