HOPE for a Drug Free Stephens Turkey Trot 5K coming up in November

HOPE for a Drug Free Stephens has announced its 3rd annual Turkey Trot 5K run/walk/trot will take place in downtown Toccoa on November 6.

HOPE for a Drug Free Stephens is organizing the Turkey Trot in hopes of raising awareness in the community about the dangers associated with heroin and opioid painkillers and reducing the number of opioid-related deaths in Stephens County.

At its core, the HOPE for a Drug Free Stephens initiative is about awareness and making Stephens County healthier, safer, stronger, and drug free.

HOPE for a Drug Free Stephens Co-Chair Kathy Whitmire says the 5K will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 6.

The Race begins and ends on Alexander Street at Toccoa City Hall.

She says AAA Race Services will make all race times official, with points awarded in the 2021 AAA Health Series, Black Bag Series and Clover Glove Series.

She says all proceeds from the 5K will go towards brining awareness to Opioid Use Disorder in the community and to the prevention of overdose deaths here in Stephens County.

The cost to register for the 5K is $25 for individuals, and $20 each for three or more in one group.

She adds that there will be several vouchers for free turkeys for anyone who dresses in turkey attire during the race.
