Home heating assistance for seniors going on now

Just a reminder, Home Heating assistance for seniors over 65 and the medically home-bound is now underway.

Brenda Dalin Director of the Ninth District Opportunity in Gainesville tells WNEG News sign-up for their Home Heating Assistance program began Friday and will run through the end of the month.

Dalin said this year, one-time payments will be made by check issued to the home heating suppliers up to $400.00. Eligibility for the program is based on the income of all household members.

Applications for those under 65 begins December 1st.

The Georgia Department of Human Services through 9th District Opportunity in Gainesville is helping to pay heating costs for low-income homes with either gas, propane, or electric heating.

To apply for home heating assistance, you must first call to make an appointment using the Ninth District’s toll-free number at: 855-636-3108 or you can go online to www.ndo.org/eap.

A representative will then call you back and schedule a time for you to come your local Ninth District office.

Dalin said when you go to your appointment you must bring verification of the age of every person in your home, verification of all household income from the past 30 days, verification of Social Security numbers, proof of citizenship such as a driver’s license, birth certificate, and your most recent heating bill and electric bill.

Home heating help for the general public begins December 1.
