Historic Plaque Program dedicates 4th Historic building for 2018-2019

Main Street Toccoa recently held its fourth historic plaque unveiling of the 2018-2019 series.

According to Main Street Manager Christian Hamilton the unveiling was dedicated to the downtown building, at 46 East Doyle Street, the current location of Just Right Catering and the former location of the Main Street Cafe.

He says the ceremony brought out many community members, including Toccoa Mayor David Austin, Toccoa City Commissioner Terry Carter, several Historic Preservation Commissioners, city staff, and historically-minded local residents.

Rick and Letha Phillips, who own the building, officiated the plaque dedication.

Hamilton says the building which houses Just Right Catering has been home to many various businesses over the years, including Lola’s Beauty Salon, Grace’s Beauty Salon, the Main Street Café, and the State Restaurant.

The building features a storefront capable of housing multiple businesses due to separate egresses in the structure, and looks very much the same as it would have back in 1927 when it was constructed.

The Historic Plaque Program highlights historic buildings in Toccoa, and the remaining plaques are set to follow each month.

Once all plaques have been installed, they will be added to Main Street Toccoa’s Historic Walking Tour Guide.
