HCSO assist in chase that crossed state lines

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office recently assisted the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office in recovering a stolen vehicle after a vehicle chase that crossed state lines.

According to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland, his office received a call, Monday afternoon, that Sherriff’s deputies with Anderson, South Carolina were chasing a white Ford Expedition stolen out of Anderson.

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Collin Taylor Bryant, crossed over into Georgia where Cleveland and his deputies responded to the chase.

Cleveland said one of the deputies threw stop sticks under the car, causing one or more tires to go flat; however, the vehicle did not stop.

Both Sheriff’s Offices continued the chase.

The vehicle then veered into oncoming traffic, striking a pickup truck head-on.

Cleveland said he immediately requested EMS and assisted Anderson County in placing the drive under arrest.

Georgia State Patrol was called in to work the accident.

Bryant was charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license, failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the roadway and possession of methamphetamine.

Additional charges are pending in both Georgia and South Carolina.
