Hartwell man charged in recent double homicide

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Hartwell man in connection to the recent double homicide that occurred on Monday.

According to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland, 59-year-old Morris Maurice Norwood, of Hartwell was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon and will be charged with felony murder for the murders of 25-year-old Alexius Spencer and 26-year-old Jerece Teasley. He’ll also face additional charges.

In an early release, Cleveland said, “At about 1:10 Monday, the Sheriff’s office received a report of a shooting on Redwine Church Rd in Hart County…Upon arrival, it was determined that a double homicide had occurred. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations and Georgia State Patrol are assisting the Hart County Sheriff’s Office in this investigation.”

According to initial reports, one person died at the scene, the second victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where she died.

Cleveland says the investigation is ongoing at this time.
