Hart Sweeps Stephens in Basketball

The Stephens County High School basketball teams will head to their Christmas tournament this week after being swept Friday night in Hart County.

Both the Indian and Lady Indian basketball teams lost to Hart County in Hartwell on Friday night.

In the girls’ game, Stephens County fell to the Lady Bulldogs, 60-46, in a game that Hart County never trailed in.

Torrion Starks and Taniya Alexander accounted for almost all of Hart’s offense, as Starks scored 30 and Alexander added 23 points.

Renejah Verdell led the Lady Indians with 19 points. Lindsay Moore added nine points off the bench and NaNa Eades scored eight points.

The loss drops the Lady Indians to 2-9 on the year, while the Lady Bulldogs moved to 9-2.

Moving to the boys’ game, Stephens County was within single digits in the second half, but Hart County pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 72-55 win.

Ty Nails led the Indians with 17 points. Nigel Green added 14 for Stephens County, and Chris Sinclair chipped in 11 points.

Four Bulldogs scored in double figures. Jordan Langston, Elijah Robinson and Shone Webb all scored 16 points, while Rex McCord added 13 points.

The loss snapped the Indian boys’ seven-game winning streak. The boys fell to 9-3 on the year. The Bulldogs are now 9-2.

Stephens County’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will both take part in the East Jackson Christmas tournament Thursday through Saturday.
