Hart EMC Crews on Standby to Help With Outages in the Carolinas

While Northeast Georgia thankfully missed much of the impact from Tropical Depression Florence, North Carolina is still reeling from the impact of heavy rain and hurricane-force winds.

As of Monday over 460,000 customers were without power in North Carolina.

Florida Power and Light sent 900 men and women to help assist Duke Energy and other electric companies in the aftermath of the storm.

Additionally, 50 crews from Jacksonville EMC are also in North Carolina helping to restore power and 30 linemen from Tallahassee are in South Carolina working with power crews there.

Georgia EMC crews are waiting to hear from North Carolina officials as to whether they will need their help.

“Georgia EMC is co-op for all the co-ops in the State and they coordinate with other states when help is needed. The emails over the weekend indicated that South Carolina had all the help they need. The North Carolina co-ops are still deciding on how much help they need. We have some (crews) that are ready to go if needed, but have not been requested at this time,” Brown explained.

Brown said earlier he has crews who have volunteered to go if needed.

In the Hart EMC coverage area, there was no real damage and no storm-related outages reported.
