Scammers are contacting citizens and claiming to be deputies with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, often stating there is a warrant, missed jury duty, or unpaid fines that must be handled immediately. They may request payment over the phone or instruct you to use gift cards, money apps, or wire transfers.

Please remember:

* The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office will never call and demand immediate payment over the phone

* The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office does not accept payment in the form of gift cards, prepaid cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers.

* If there is a warrant for your arrest, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office deputies will visit you in person to address that.

Legitimate legal matters are handled through official documentation — not urgent phone threats or text messages.
