Habersham County recognizes Solid Waste and Recycling Workers Week June 15–20

Habersham County proudly recognizes Solid Waste and Recycling Workers Week, June 15–20, 2026, honoring the dedicated men and women of the Habersham County Solid Waste Department whose daily efforts help protect public health, preserve the environment, and maintain the quality of life enjoyed by residents throughout the county.
Every day, Solid Waste and Recycling employees perform essential services that often go unnoticed but are vital to the community. From operating the county landfill and recycling centers to managing waste disposal, recycling programs, and environmental compliance efforts, these employees work diligently to ensure Habersham County remains clean, safe, and environmentally responsible.
Working in all weather conditions and often behind the scenes, Solid Waste personnel provide dependable service that supports residents, businesses, and visitors across Habersham County. Their responsibilities require professionalism, technical expertise, and a strong commitment to public service.
“Solid Waste and Recycling Workers Week provides an opportunity to recognize the hardworking individuals who keep our communities clean and functioning every day,” said Johnnie Vickers, Director of Habersham County Solid Waste. “Their dedication to environmental stewardship and customer service is a critical part of county operations, and we appreciate their commitment to serving the citizens of Habersham County.”
In addition to their daily responsibilities, the Habersham County Solid Waste Department continues to expand recycling opportunities, improve operational efficiency, and promote responsible waste management practices throughout the county. These achievements are made possible by the dedicated employees who work each day to provide reliable and environmentally sound services.
Solid waste collection and disposal is also one of the most hazardous professions in the nation. According to the SWANA Georgia Chapter, solid waste workers are currently ranked among the top ten most dangerous occupations in the United States, highlighting the risks these employees face while serving their communities.
During Solid Waste and Recycling Workers Week, Habersham County encourages residents to join in expressing appreciation for the employees who help maintain a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable community for present and future generations.
