GSP charges driver with DUI after seriously injuring motorcyclist in Toccoa

The Georgia State Patrol has released information regarding a recent accident that occurred on Big A Road that left a motorcyclist seriously injured.

On Friday, April 30, 55-year-old Donald James Johnston was attempting to turn left onto Big A Road from US 123, on his Honda VT1300, when a Nissan Pathfinder, driven by 59-year-old John William McKibben, hit him.

According to troopers with the GSP, after being struck, Johnston and his bike was thrown in the air, traveling 78 feet before coming to a stop.

The GSP says eyewitnesses reported seeing McKibben run the red-light and strike Johnston.

Troopers have charged McKibben with a red-light violation causing serious injury by vehicle and DUI.

Johnston was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment of his injuries.
