Grand Jury Meets Again on School Finance Issue

Court officials report that a number of former Stephens County School System administrators met with the Stephens County grand jury Wednesday.

The grand jury is meeting with these individuals as part of a fact-finding inquiry into the financial issues that came to light earlier this year regarding the Stephens County school system.

Meeting with the grand jury Wednesday were former School Superintendent Sherrie Whiten, former Finance Director Annah Dodge, former Assistant Superintendent Jason Kaup, former Assistant Superintendent and current Stephens County High School Principal Sandy Steele, and employees Eva McJunkin and Yvette Hood.

Previously, the grand jury also met with the current members of the Stephens County Board of Education and current Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey.

A grand jury is allowed to inquire about anything it wishes to during its term, which lasts for a period of six months.

Typically, any report compiled by a grand jury is released and made public at the end of its term.

This current Stephens County grand jury’s term runs through December 31.
