Grand Jury indicts South Carolina man for Toccoa bank robbery

The Grand Jury handed down indictments last week in Stephens County Superior Court.

WNEG announced several indictments during its newscasts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

These are the remaining indictments.

Sidney Allen McCollum, of Pickens County, South Carolina was indicted for robbery by intimidation.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred on August 11, 2021, when McCollum entered the Northeast Georgia Bank in Toccoa, presented a note to the bank teller demanding money and threatened to return if there were any tracking devices or dyes in with the money.

McCollum had stollen a vehicle from Pickens County, South Carolina prior to the bank robbery and used it to flee from the bank.

As WNEG previously reported, McCollum was arrested in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on August 14, 2021.

At that time, Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize told WNEG News that a hit confirmation came into the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division giving notification of McCollum’s arrest in Hamilton County, Tennessee.

A BOLO was given out as a possible drunk driver.

A Chattanooga Police Department Officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle pulling into a restaurant, he was taken into custody without incident.

He was still driving the stolen truck from Pickens County, South Carolina that he used in the Toccoa.

McCollum was also suspected of a bank robbery in Gainesville just a few days following the robbery in Toccoa.

Mark Anthony Allen was also indicted last week for two counts of forgery in the first degree and giving false information to a law enforcement officer.

Allen’s charges stem from an incident that occurred on October 17, 2021, and October 18, 2021, after he forged booking paperwork at Stephens County Detention Center. He also gave a false name to Stephens County Sheriff’s Deputy Jake Palmer.
