Getting a REAL ID

Beginning May 7, everyone over the age of 18 will need a REAL ID to board a domestic flight, access federal facilities, and enter certain secure locations. REAL ID is a federally compliant, security-enhanced identification. Real IDs have a star on the upper top portion of the card. You can only obtain a REAL ID at your local Department of Motor Vehicles office. You will need proof of identity, such as a birth certificate, passport, or permanent resident card, proof of Social Security Number, proof of residency, and proof of a legal name change. If you see a website offering REAL ID without an in-person visit to the DMV, it’s probably fake. Do not enter your information.
