George Alexander Adams

George Alexander Adams (1935-2021) passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 29, 2021 at his home in Toccoa, GA. George was born in Brooklyn, NY to parents, Georgina and Hugh Adams. He had one older brother, Ronald, who preceded him in death. He was married to his beloved Beverly Ann Rossi (1934-2015) in 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, NY and they enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage. George and Beverly moved with their growing family to Long Island, NY and raised their five children in Central Islip, NY. The couple retired to Toccoa, GA in 1994.

George grew up in Brooklyn, NY where he met Beverly when they were both serving as YMCA counselors. He was a graduate of Baruch College, CUNY. He also attended Harvard Business School. He worked for First National City Bank (now Citibank), Irving Trust, Chemical Bank and American Express International where he served as a Vice President in the Asia Pacific division. This presented the opportunity to travel all over the world and fed his love for travel, culture, and building relationships with people. Upon taking an early retirement in 1993, he began his own firm Target Consulting and conducted a wide variety of training, strategic planning, career counseling, and resume development around the United States and abroad. He especially enjoyed encouraging and counseling young people beginning their careers and often provided his services pro bono for those in need. After retiring in North Georgia, he taught economics as an adjunct professor for nine years at Toccoa Falls College, was a member of the Rotary, and served on the YMCA board. Throughout his life he was an avid reader and gardener.

George was a lifelong devoted Christian and an active member of the numerous churches to which he belonged: Clarendon Road Church in Brooklyn, NY, Alliance Church, Commack, NY, First Baptist Church of Central Islip, NY, and Trinity Lutheran Church, Toccoa, GA. He served as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, treasurer, adult Bible-Study leader, and in leadership positions on a multitude of boards and committees. He was passionate about his faith life and had a particular commitment to supporting missionaries around the world.

George will be lovingly remembered and honored by his family as a devoted husband, father and grandfather and for his legacy of faith. He is survived by his 5 children and their spouses: Margit Adams of Toccoa, GA; George and Jolee Adams of Castle Rock, Colorado; Edith and Greg Walton of Orlando, FL; William and Elizabeth Adams of Smithtown, NY; Beverly and Anthony Ceccarini of Holbrook, NY; He was blessed with 9 grandchildren and their spouses–Alex and Angie, Timothy and Megan, Emily, Michael, Rachel, Erik, Jack, Courtney, Alexandra—and 5 great grandchildren—Noelle, Zachary, Fisher, Fletcher, and Elsie. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.
