GBI Investigates Stabbing in Demorest

In Habersham County, agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating a stabbing at an apartment in Demorest.

Authorities say it happened Monday night.

Demorest Police were called to an apartment in the Demorest Court Apartments around 9p.

Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim of the stabbing, 18-year old Miguel Axel Pascual, of Mt. Airy, had been transported to the Habersham County Medical Center to be treated for
stab wounds.

Witnesses at the scene reported that Pascual had been stabbed with a knife at the residence by another man, identified as 18-year old Francisco Matias, of Cornelia, who fled the scene.
Matias was later arrested at the Habersham County Medical Center where he was being treated for injuries sustained while fleeing the scene.

Matias was charged with aggravated assault as a result of the incident and is currently being housed at the Habersham County Jail, awaiting court proceedings.

Pascual is currently being treated at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.

GBI spokesperson Nelly Miles tells WNEG News the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Once complete, the investigation will be provided to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
