Gasaway: Erwin Should Have Conceded Election, Hurt People of HD28

Former House District 28 State Representative Dan Gasaway is responding to Chris Erwin’s Facebook page comments in which Erwin called a Judge’s order for him to step down, “a travesty.”

Erwin has filed an appeal to a second lawsuit that Gasaway won, which alleged multiple cases of illegal or improper voting in Habersham and Banks counties during the December 4th Special Election.

In his ruling, Judge David Sweat ordered Erwin to leave office pending an April 9 election.

On his Facebook page, Erwin said because of the Judge’s order, citizens in the 28th District now have no voice or vote on important issues facing Georgia lawmakers this session.

“Veterans, law enforcement professionals, small business owners and taxpayers will be without a Representative to help them navigate government and find solutions for their problems,” Erwin wrote.  “Unfortunately, for the taxpayers of the 28th District, Dan Gasaway has put his political career ambitions over what’s best for our community and the State of Georgia.”

Gasaway called that accusation ridiculous.

“Mr. Erwin feigns great concern for the people of the 28th District. But if he was that concerned about the people, he would have conceded the first illegal election before the 4th of July, instead of dragging it out to the end of September,” Gasaway told WNEG News. “Most recently, Mr. Erwin fought to uphold another illegal election, which he should have acknowledged as wrong back before Christmas. Instead, he listened to his Gainesville handlers, fought to uphold two illegal elections, and here we are at Valentine’s Day.”

“If Mr. Erwin is really that concerned about the people in the 28thDistrict, he should withdraw his candidacy and concede that I won the December 4 election. We proved without a doubt that at least 3 people who were very public supporters of Mr. Erwin voted illegally. Without those 3 votes, I win the election. It’s simple math. Sounds like to me and anyone interested in legal elections, that it’s Mr. Erwin’s political career ambitions that are hurting the people of the 28th District,” Gasaway concluded.
