Gas Tax Suspension Ended Yesterday, Oct. 16
WNEG News received several calls this morning about an increase overnight in gas prices, and WNEG News wants to remind residents that the gas tax suspension originally put into place by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp on Thursday, Oct. 3. as a response to Hurricane Helene expired at 11:59 p.m. last night, Oct. 16. The suspension of the taxes resulted in roughly 32 to 36 cent per gallon savings and was applied to gasoline, clear diesel, aviation gasoline, liquid propane gas, gasohol, ethanol, liquified natural gas, and compressed natural gas.
Last week, while Kemp, through executive orders, let many counties’ emergency declarations lapse, it still kept the gas tax suspension in effect for the entire state until yesterday’s 11:59 p.m. cutoff.
