Fugitive From N.Y. Arrested in Toccoa

A man wanted on charges in New York state is taken into custody in Toccoa.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said his office worked with the U.S. Marshal’s Office to arrest an individual identified as Jesse Patterson in Toccoa on Tuesday.

Shirley said that authorities found Patterson Tuesday at a Franklin Street residence.

“They tracked him through technology and other intelligence to a Toccoa address,” said Shirley. “We met with the agents and formulated a plan and set up surveillance. He was on the move at that time in his automobile. Once he returned home, we took him down. We had to force down the door, he was hiding in the attic. After some negotiations, he voluntarily came down and was arrested without incident.”

According to the sheriff, Patterson has connections to Stephens County.

The sheriff said Patterson, whose age was not released, faces charges in connection to an alleged home invasion and armed robbery in Utica, New York.

In addition, he said Patterson will face charges locally.

“We did find a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun close to where he was arrested,” said Shirley.

That will result, Shirley said, in an additional charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Shirley said Patterson remains in the Stephens County Jail on the local charges with a federal hold on him as well.

The sheriff went on to say that the investigation is ongoing in connection with this case.
