Franklin County Family a Finalist in Georgia Farm Family Competition

A Franklin County family farm is one of four finalists in a statewide Georgia Young Farmer Farm Family competition.
In March, the Eric and Amy Segars family farm was selected as one of four State Georgia Young Farmer Farm Family finalists and judging for the competition continued this summer.
The Segars’ farm was selected as the Franklin County Young Farmers chapter winner in March of 2015.
The Georgia Development Authority in conjunction with the Georgia Young Farmer Association sponsors the competition.
Atlantic Southern Equipment will present the state winner with a year’s free use of a tractor.
According to family advisor Owen Thomason the Segars filled out an application for the State Association, answering questions about the history and future plans for the farm, farm record keeping practices, farm care, safety and environmental concerns.
Thomason said the Segars also provided information about leadership activities within the Franklin County Young Farmer Association as well as other community groups.
Additionally, three judges from across the State visited their farm on August 6th and interviewed the family. They also toured the farm, looking at record keeping practices and discussing the goals of the operation.
The Segars and their five children will head to the State Convention in January where they will be recognized for their achievements in farming and will find out if they are the winners.
