Former Indian Standout Hired to Lead SCHS Baseball Program
Former Stephens County High School student and standout athlete Dacen Cash has been tapped to fill the head coach position being left vacant by the recent retirement of coach Greg McCall from the position of head baseball coach. McCall, who will continue as a SCHS science teacher and assistant football coach, served as Indians’ head baseball coach for 11 years after 4 years as an assistant.
Following yesterday’s scheduled Board of Education work session meeting, board members entered executive session to discuss personnel matters, after which the Stephens County Board of Education reconvened to approved Cash’s selection.
Cash graduated from Stephen County High School in 2010; he was a leadoff hitter and shortstop for the Stephens County baseball team as well as serving as a starting quarterback for the 2008 and 2009 football teams. He has served as assistant coach at North Hall for several seasons and won a state championship title in 2021 under North Hall Head Baseball Coach Trevor Flow, who is a former Stephens Co. head baseball coach and served as an assistant coach during the years Cash was at SCHS.
WNEG will continue our coverage of Cash’s selection as Indians coach with interviews with Cash and SCHS Athletic Director Chuck King in the coming weeks.
