Flu Vaccines Now Available

It’s that time of year when it’s time to think about getting your annual flu vaccine.

District 2 Public Health Departments, which includes the Stephens County Health Department, now have flu shots available and urge residents to get immunized now against seasonal influenza.

District 2 spokesman Dave Palmer said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending that all persons, six months of age and older, who can take the flu shot, do so.

Influenza activity typically lasts from October to May in the United States, but can occur at any time.

Palmer also recommends seniors and those with compromised immune systems get the high-dose vaccine.

There are many flu viruses and they are constantly changing, according to Palmer, which is why the CDC updates the recommended vaccine every year.

According to the CDC Web site, this year’s flu Vaccine will protect against the three viruses that research suggests will be most common for the 2017-2018 flu season.

They include protection against the H1N1, H3N2, and B/Victoria flu viruses.

Flu shots at your local health department are $25, and in Stephens and Franklin Counties, you can walk into the clinic during normal business hours to get vaccinated.

Both health departments are open Monday – Friday from 8a – 11a and from 1p to 4p.

Both clinics also offer drive-up or curbside service.

Local health departments accept cash, credit and debit cards, as well as Medicare, Medicaid, Peach Care, and most health insurance plans.
