Firework Safety Tips
Fireworks are synonymous with 4th of July celebrations. As you prepare to celebrate Independence Day, Stephens County Fire Coordinator Stacy Pulliam offers this safety advice.
Only use fireworks outdoors, in an open area away from buildings, vehicles, dry grass, and other combustible materials. Always read and follow the directions on the fireworks label, adds Chief Pulliam.
Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks.
Never try to relight malfunctioning fireworks.
Have a garden hose, bucket of water, or fire extinguisher nearby in case of emergencies.
Do not handle fireworks while under the influence of alcohol.
Properly dispose of spent fireworks by soaking them in water before placing them in a trash receptacle. Fireworks can rekindle in trash cans, which can cause fires.
Chief Pulliam wants everyone to stay safe this 4th of July.
Please follow this fireworks safety advice and have a safe 4th of July!
