End of year gas prices

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia held steady over the past week, coming in at $2.24 per gallon on Monday, Christmas day.

While prices in Georgia were static for the week, they’re 6.7 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and 9.4 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, according to GasBuddy.com.

Prices in Georgia also remained better for consumers than the national average.

Across the country, the price per gallon went up a penny to $2.43 per gallon.

Head of Petroleum Analysis for GasBuddy, Patrick DeHaan explained that we could see lower gas prices in the weeks ahead, saying quote, “With the New Year set to roll in accompanied by a strong cold front, I’d expect gasoline demand to weaken, thus softening the outlook for gas prices in the weeks ahead and eventually delivering lower gas prices.”

According to AAA, the current national average for gas is $2.44 an increase of .20 for our region average.

AAA also listed the national average for last year, which came in at $2.29.
