Dr. Thompson hired as Deputy Superintendent for Stephens County Schools

The Stephens County Board of Education has hired a Deputy Superintendent to serve under Stephens County School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Oldham.

On Tuesday, at the Board of Education regular scheduled meeting, the board went into executive session to discuss personnel, after coming out the board voted and approved the school system’s HR Report.

The HR Report named Dr. Matthew Thompson as Deputy Superintendent.

Thompson will be the second in command and will start his tenure July 1, 2021.

Joel Strickland will continue to serve as the Assistant Superintendent for Stephens County Schools.

Prior to coming to Stephens County, Thompson has worked in the Barrow County School System where he served as Director of Student and Data Services and before that served as System Testing and Data Coordinator.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Georgia, master’s and specialist degrees in school psychology from Georgia Southern University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia.

He is originally a native of Blue Ridge, Georgia and currently lives in Stephens County.
