Dora Jean Cheek Elrod

Dora Jean Cheek Elrod, age 76 of Toccoa, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 12, 2023.

The daughter of the late Robert “Bob” S. Westbrooks and Willie Mae Verner Westbrooks, she was born June 30, 1946 in Franklin County, Georgia having lived most of her life in Stephens County. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Senior Saints and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Lamar Cheek, her second husband, Charlie Elrod, her brothers, Roy Westbrooks, Bobby Westbrooks, Winfred Westbrooks, Charles Westbrooks, Bill Westbrooks and Jim Westbrooks, and a sister-in-law, Geneva Westbrooks.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Greg Jones of Toccoa, Georgia; and her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Karen Cheek of Toccoa, Georgia; Grandchildren, Jessica and Josh Bohannon of Green Cove Springs, Florida, Erica and Jon Smith of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Megan Cheek of Dahlonega, Georgia, and Emily Cheek of Dahlonega, Georgia; Great-grand children, Alivia Bohannon, Scarlett Smith and Ezra Smith; brother and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Chrissy Westbrooks of Brunswick, Georgia, Peggy Westbrooks of Eastanollee, Georgia, Hazel Singleton Bowman, Georgia, and Jean Westbrooks of Byron, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be Sunday, May 14, 2023, 3 O’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Reverend David Sosebee and the Reverend Jewell Gaines officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Josh Bohannon, Jon Smith, Ronnie Turpin, James Elrod, Tim Pruitt., and Jacob Pruitt.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Jim Wade, Tommy Smalls, Brian Duncan and the staffs of Stephens County Hospital and PruittHealth Hospice for the love and care given to their loved one.

Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Dora Jean Cheek Elrod.
